This wine might look familiar to you, as it shares a label and comes from the same winery as the pinot noir I had on Day 2. Little Bird impressed me so much the first time I had it, that I decided to pick up a few other varieties when I saw them at Stew Leonard’s the other day. As a result, I’ll be writing about a couple of other Little Birds over the next few days.
This Little Bird, at first glance, has a very deep red color and a pungent smell. I don’t think I’ve ever had a Malbec before (edit: apparently it refers to a region high in the Andes where the grapes are grown), but it’s definitely a stronger wine with a lot of flavor. I definitely taste some plum and dark berries that are followed by a bitterness when you really allow yourself to taste the complexity of the wine. Together, I think it’s a great mix of strong flavors.
So far, it seems like I really resonate with Little Bird, the winery. I’ve now tried both their Pinot Noir and their Malbec, and I’ve really enjoyed both of them. This gives me high hopes for the Merlot and Chardonnay that I’ll be sampling in the coming days. Anyway, Little BirdMalbec: A/A-
